mmm mmmm

Here is the Blueberry Cream Cheese Recipe

Either make a grahm cracker crust from scratch, or buy one prepared at the store.

One 8 ounce package of cream cheese
mix in 1/4 cup of splenda sugar mix
a teaspoon of vanilla.

Spread mixture on crust.

In a saute pan put 1 cup water, 1 cup splenda sugar mix and 1/2 cup of fresh or frozen blueberries.  Heat up and then put 1/4 of water with two tablespoons of corn starch, mix and add to boiling berry mixture until thickened.  Then chill the mixture in the freezer till cold.

When mixture is cool take out of freezer.  Take a 3 cups of fresh blueberries and sprinkle them over the cream cheese mixture that you put on the crust.  Then pour the cooked berries over the top and spread around.

Then, add some cool whip and serve.  MMM MMM.

WORDS OF THE WISDOM

This week Psalm 25  from the Message Bible

A David Psalm

 1-2 My head is high, God, held high; I’m looking to you, God;
   No hangdog skulking for me.

 3 I’ve thrown in my lot with you;
   You won’t embarrass me, will you?
   Or let my enemies get the best of me?

   Don’t embarrass any of us
   Who went out on a limb for you.
   It’s the traitors who should be humiliated.

 4 Show me how you work, God;
   School me in your ways.

 5 Take me by the hand;
   Lead me down the path of truth.
   You are my Savior, aren’t you?

 6 Mark the milestones of your mercy and love, God;
   Rebuild the ancient landmarks!

 7 Forget that I sowed wild oats;
   Mark me with your sign of love.
   Plan only the best for me, God!

 8 God is fair and just;
   He corrects the misdirected,
   Sends them in the right direction.

 9 He gives the rejects his hand,
   And leads them step-by-step.

 10 From now on every road you travel
   Will take you to God.
   Follow the Covenant signs;
   Read the charted directions.

 11 Keep up your reputation, God;
   Forgive my bad life;
   It’s been a very bad life.

 12 My question: What are God-worshipers like?
   Your answer: Arrows aimed at God’s bull’s-eye.

 13 They settle down in a promising place;
   Their kids inherit a prosperous farm.

 14 God-friendship is for God-worshipers;
   They are the ones he confides in.

 15 If I keep my eyes on God,
   I won’t trip over my own feet.

 16 Look at me and help me!
   I’m all alone and in big trouble.

 17 My heart and kidneys are fighting each other;
   Call a truce to this civil war.

 18 Take a hard look at my life of hard labor,
   Then lift this ton of sin.

 19 Do you see how many people
   Have it in for me?
   How viciously they hate me?

 20 Keep watch over me and keep me out of trouble;
   Don’t let me down when I run to you.

 21 Use all your skill to put me together;
   I wait to see your finished product.

 22 God, give your people a break
   From this run of bad luck.

Next week Amy joins me to talk about how our family has dealt with life in the wake of dealing with difficult people.

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves”
— Matthew 7:15

by Rick Moyer

Did you know that God gave us a brain and instincts for a reason?  Yep.  When I first gave my heart over to Christ I was often very disappointed in my fellow believers because they seemed to be far too trusting of others.  Their big excuse was, “All things work together for good for those who believe!”  They used that a lot to justify some pretty horrible behavior.  It was almost like a haze came over their eyes and they became zombies when a leader would say something.  They simply and blindly, many times, accepted what was being said as the gospel truth.

As time went by I became that way to a certain point as well.  I was aclimated into the “this is the way it is brother” club.  Don’t question your leadership, don’t use  your head, just walk by faith.  That worked great until our first major problem with church leadership.

We had a pastor who exhibited signs of narcissism.  I didn’t know what it was at the time but was soon to find out.  When all was said and done we had been serving with a man who turned out to be a wolf in sheep’s clothing.  We caught him in adultery with at least seven women, he had manipulated many of our friends and was starting to exhibit signs of being a cult leader.  WOW!  I talk about it on my podcast this week, and think it is a good listen.  Of course he was removed from his position and we had to recover from the mess.  It was very hard initially because we had trusted him to speak into our lives.

What I found is that the Bible has some safeguards and tests to find out whether or not you are associating with genuine people or not.  In fact it even warns that there will be people masquerading as sheep when in fact they are wolves with costumes on.  Yeah, no kidding.  Why in the world do we ignore those passages of scripture that tell us how to hear God’s voice?  I know the answer to that.  It is our culture and our laziness.  We don’t want to do the research required, or have the commitment it takes to be our own person.

Do you know that to recognize counterfeit money, bank tellers study the real thing?  They have some pens that they can use to check the ink on the money, but they are trained to feel the money, see the money, handle the money- and when something that isn’t genuine comes along it feels different, strange and out of place.  If we as believers knew Jesus better, then when a counterfeit or off base preacher came along, we could notice.  In fact when I look back at the times we were burned by fellow “Christians” I always had a little “check” in my Spirit.

If a pastor always talks about himself, how awesome he is, money and what he can do for you then you may see some signs.  If he/she is selfish and unloving- you may have a sign.  If a person is more interested in their ministry than they are in you and Jesus… you have a sign.  It’s all about Jesus, not a man or woman.

Some pastors, leaders, priests, etc, are here to help us get closer to God, but they themselves are not Jesus.

They call a relationship with Jesus a personal relationship for a reason.  It’s because we aren’t supposed to rely on anyone else to stand before God for us.  Not our priest, not our pastor, not our mom and dad… nope, it is supposed to be US that stand before God on our own.  We are all accountable for our relationship with HIM.
It is easier to say “yeah, my pastor says this” or “yep, my favorite preacher always says..”  rather than- “You know I was reading my Bible and found this really cool passage that spoke to me like this–”  That requires some time and discipline- and most importantly a relationship with God.

The reason we are so devastated when our politicians, pastors and priests fall  is because we have placed them far to up on a pedestal.  All of the men and women we hold in high esteem are human, and fallible just like us.

When Michael Jackson died I was sad.  I don’t like death much, and his music was pretty amazing.  But some were devastated.  He was their idol.  No one should be held that high.  Only Jesus can deliver the goods when it comes to worship.  We can worship Him and in Him we won’t be disappointed.  There is nothing wrong with admiring someone or being thankful for someone that has helped us through tough times, but we can take it to extreme.  And that is when it hurts the most- when someone we love and trust lets us down.

I can find nowhere in the Bible where it says to trust anyone blindly.  We are supposed to “Know” those who we work with, we are supposed to test the spirits, and we are supposed to examine the lifestyle of those that lead us. And while no one is perfect, the Bible tells us the difference between someone who is genuine and someone who is pulling the wool over our eyes.

Who do you run to when you are in trouble?  Who do you ask for advice?  The first person we should run to is Jesus.  Then  we can bump it off a close friend or our pastor, priest or family member.  Jesus should come first, not last.

Not everyone who says they have your back does.  I do know one person that does though.  His name is Jesus and He won’t let you down.

He Calls His Sheep by Name

 1-5 “Let me set this before you as plainly as I can. If a person climbs over or through the fence of a sheep pen instead of going through the gate, you know he’s up to no good—a sheep rustler! The shepherd walks right up to the gate. The gatekeeper opens the gate to him and the sheep recognize his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he gets them all out, he leads them and they follow because they are familiar with his voice. They won’t follow a stranger’s voice but will scatter because they aren’t used to the sound of it.”

WORDS OF WISDOM
1st Timothy 4 from (The Message Bible)

Teach with Your Life
1-5The Spirit makes it clear that as time goes on, some are going to give up on the faith and chase after demonic illusions put forth by professional liars. These liars have lied so well and for so long that they’ve lost their capacity for truth. They will tell you not to get married. They’ll tell you not to eat this or that food—perfectly good food God created to be eaten heartily and with thanksgiving by believers who know better! Everything God created is good, and to be received with thanks. Nothing is to be sneered at and thrown out. God’s Word and our prayers make every item in creation holy.

6-10You’ve been raised on the Message of the faith and have followed sound teaching. Now pass on this counsel to the followers of Jesus there, and you’ll be a good servant of Jesus. Stay clear of silly stories that get dressed up as religion. Exercise daily in God—no spiritual flabbiness, please! Workouts in the gymnasium are useful, but a disciplined life in God is far more so, making you fit both today and forever. You can count on this. Take it to heart. This is why we’ve thrown ourselves into this venture so totally. We’re banking on the living God, Savior of all men and women, especially believers.

11-14Get the word out. Teach all these things. And don’t let anyone put you down because you’re young. Teach believers with your life: by word, by demeanor, by love, by faith, by integrity. Stay at your post reading Scripture, giving counsel, teaching. And that special gift of ministry you were given when the leaders of the church laid hands on you and prayed—keep that dusted off and in use.

15-16Cultivate these things. Immerse yourself in them. The people will all see you mature right before their eyes! Keep a firm grasp on both your character and your teaching. Don’t be diverted. Just keep at it. Both you and those who hear you will experience salvation.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

This week I get very candid and share about a hard time in me and Amy’s life. We were involved in a church over 15 years ago where I caught the pastor in adultery with seven women. I talk about the feelings of betrayal and shock that happened with us. I also talk about some things that helped us get a better perspective on life during this very hard season.

If you have ever been let down, betrayed, hurt or abused by someone in authority like a boss, spouse, pastor, parent or neighbor- this is the podcast for you. The next few weeks I will talk about dealing with narcissistic personalities, sociopathic personality disorders and difficult people.

I talk about relying on God to help you get out situations where you feel you may be down for the count.

I call the story I tell- The pastor of disaster.

Words of Wisdom
How did Jesus handle grief?

Matthew 14 (The Message)

1-2 At about this time, Herod, the regional ruler, heard what was being said about Jesus. He said to his servants, “This has to be John the Baptizer come back from the dead. That’s why he’s able to work miracles!”

 3-5Herod had arrested John, put him in chains, and sent him to prison to placate Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife. John had provoked Herod by naming his relationship with Herodias “adultery.” Herod wanted to kill him, but he was afraid because so many people revered John as a prophet of God.

 6-12But at his birthday celebration, he got his chance. Herodias’s daughter provided the entertainment, dancing for the guests. She swept Herod away. In his drunken enthusiasm, he promised her on oath anything she wanted. Already coached by her mother, she was ready: “Give me, served up on a platter, the head of John the Baptizer.” That sobered the king up fast. Unwilling to lose face with his guests, he did it—ordered John’s head cut off and presented to the girl on a platter. She in turn gave it to her mother. Later, John’s disciples got the body, gave it a reverent burial, and reported to Jesus.

 13-14When Jesus got the news, he slipped away by boat to an out-of-the-way place by himself. But unsuccessfully—someone saw him and the word got around. Soon a lot of people from the nearby villages walked around the lake to where he was. When he saw them coming, he was overcome with pity and healed their sick.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

How to handle Grief and Loss.

Everyone goes through rough times.  Loss and Grief are a part of life that many of us dont’ want to think about it.

It is possible to turn things that have hurt us around and use them to make us stronger.

During the podcast I talk about allowing time to grieve, share with someone you can trust, and then changing our behavior.

There are many tips today, and you have to listen to really get the information! 🙂  http://www.takehimwithyou.com/podcast/071209goodgrief.mp3

I read about normal things that we think that are false.  I read scriptures that answer the very false thinking that we can have.  It is really good.

I share about my friend Jim who died, and I thought that I could have someone how prevented it.  Take a listen.

Have you ever had thoughts that you know just aren’t true?  I talk about changing our perspective.

God only wants us to do the best we can.

Grief and failure can kill our dreams.

With God he can change our hearts and help us out of grief and loss. He can shed a new light on our situation.

A lot of folks lack FAITH.  God wants to give us faith.

I then share from the book I am reading called “The Pursuit of Hapiness” by Dr. Frank Minirith.

Six lessons that we learn from Grief-  take a listen, they are really helpful.

I share about a time that I had to minister to a family that had lost their infant child- talk about dealing with loss and grief.  It was tough, but they are doing ok now.

I pray for you!  And then I close the program.

Next week:  Murphy’s law Revisited.  How do you overcome devistating circumstances in life!  Should be good!

Ok, for those of you that want the recipe- here it is.  They turned out AWESOME!

Stuffed Green Peppers

greenpepperonplate

Here is what you will need:

One box of Beef Rice-a-Roni
2 stalks of Celery
1 pound ground beef or turkey
1/2 Large Sweet Onion
1 small can of stewed tomatoes
4 or 5 Large Green or Red Peppers
2 strips of bacon
Worcestershire sauce
Soy Sauce
Seasoning Salt
Parmesean Cheese

Follow the direction on the Rice A Roni box and while browning the rice, add the two stalks of celery chopped, and a little bit of onion.  Add the water and the seasoning and let it cook.  (we’ll grab it later)

In a seperate frying pan crumble in the meat, chopped bacon, & chopped onions.  Brown the meat -drain the fat and then add 1/2 cup of Worcestershire sauce, the stewed tomatoes and some seasoning salt. Then add 1 tablespoon of soy sauce.   Season to taste.

Check on your rice a roni- it should be about 15 minutes into the process-  stir the rice mixture and then add the meat into the pan with it.  Mix well. The rice doesn’t have to be all the way done, in fact it’s better if it isn’t.  It’s going to cook in the oven later.

Hollow out your green pepper by treating them like a pumpkin you are going to carve.  Clean out the inside, and save the top.  Take all the seeds out.  Then take your rice and meat mixture and spoon it into the peppers, make sure you pat it down well.  When the peppers are stuffed place them in a casserole dish standing up.  Dust the top with parmesean cheese and place the top back on the pepper.  Bake at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes.  Watch them around 35 minutes.

I served mine with some garlic bread.

Serves 4 or 5.

Yummy!  Bon apetite!

Words of Wisdom
Psalm 91:1-16
1-13You who sit down in the High God’s presence, spend the night in Shaddai’s shadow,
   Say this: “God, you’re my refuge.
      I trust in you and I’m safe!”
   That’s right—he rescues you from hidden traps,
      shields you from deadly hazards.
   His huge outstretched arms protect you—
      under them you’re perfectly safe;
      his arms fend off all harm.
   Fear nothing—not wild wolves in the night,
      not flying arrows in the day,
   Not disease that prowls through the darkness,
      not disaster that erupts at high noon.
   Even though others succumb all around,
      drop like flies right and left,
      no harm will even graze you.
   You’ll stand untouched, watch it all from a distance,
      watch the wicked turn into corpses.
   Yes, because God‘s your refuge,
      the High God your very own home,
   Evil can’t get close to you,
      harm can’t get through the door.
   He ordered his angels
      to guard you wherever you go.
   If you stumble, they’ll catch you;
      their job is to keep you from falling.
   You’ll walk unharmed among lions and snakes,
      and kick young lions and serpents from the path.

 14-16 “If you’ll hold on to me for dear life,” says God,
      “I’ll get you out of any trouble.
   I’ll give you the best of care
      if you’ll only get to know and trust me.
   Call me and I’ll answer, be at your side in bad times;
      I’ll rescue you, then throw you a party.
   I’ll give you a long life,
      give you a long drink of salvation!”

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

The second half of the show is all about reducing stress in our lives.  I cover a chapter in a book that I am reading called “In Pursuit of Happiness” by Dr. Frank Minirth.  It’s really good.  You could win a copy of the book if you enter the contest on the show.  So listen and follow the instructions.

I talk about things that happened in my life to cause stress and how it took it’s toll on my body.  I then talk about steps to take in reducing our stress level.  It’s really an informative podcast that should be listened too!  Let me know what you think!

I introduce a heavier tune that I wrote and recorded called “Out of the Box”

Here are the lyrics:

Psalm 34:4 I sought the LORD, and he answered me;
       he delivered me from all my fears.

Here are the lyrics to my new song.  Oh and if you want to hear it, click here.  (it is a rockin’ tune, so turn up your speakers and enjoy)

Out of the box
by Rick Moyer

Pressure’s coming down on me
my head could just explode
Is this the way it’s supposed to be?
that’s not what I’ve been told

I’ve let things get way to close
It’s easy to to do you know
but if I cast my care upon you God
you show me which way to go

Out of the box
Out of the box
Out of the box
Out of the box

Have I dug myself in deeper now
or is there hope for me in store?
All I know is I can’t stay here
and I need you more and more

My prayer it takes me higher
as your hand you reach to me
I lift my arms up toward you
and your Spirit sets me free

Out of the box
Out of the box
Out of the box
Out of the box

You set me free, yeah

Out of the box
Out of the box
Out of the box
Out of the box

Out of the box you set me free
Out of the box you set me free

God take this stress from me
I lay it at your feet
I forgive the ones that hurt my heart
Now make my heart complete

I can’t live without your love
you blow my life away
I cast my care upon you now
I choose to live today

Out of the box
Out of the box
Out of the box
Out of the box

I cast my care on you
