Words of Wisdom
1st Thessalonians Chapter 3 (Message)

1-2So when we couldn’t stand being separated from you any longer and could find no way to visit you ourselves, we stayed in Athens and sent Timothy to get you up and about, cheering you on so you wouldn’t be discouraged by these hard times. He’s a brother and companion in the faith, God’s man in spreading the Message, preaching Christ.

3-5Not that the troubles should come as any surprise to you. You’ve always known that we’re in for this kind of thing. It’s part of our calling. When we were with you, we made it quite clear that there was trouble ahead. And now that it’s happened, you know what it’s like. That’s why I couldn’t quit worrying; I had to know for myself how you were doing in the faith. I didn’t want the Tempter getting to you and tearing down everything we had built up together.

6-8But now that Timothy is back, bringing this terrific report on your faith and love, we feel a lot better. It’s especially gratifying to know that you continue to think well of us, and that you want to see us as much as we want to see you! In the middle of our trouble and hard times here, just knowing how you’re doing keeps us going. Knowing that your faith is alive keeps us alive.

9-10What would be an adequate thanksgiving to offer God for all the joy we experience before him because of you? We do what we can, praying away, night and day, asking for the bonus of seeing your faces again and doing what we can to help when your faith falters.

11-13May God our Father himself and our Master Jesus clear the road to you! And may the Master pour on the love so it fills your lives and splashes over on everyone around you, just as it does from us to you. May you be infused with strength and purity, filled with confidence in the presence of God our Father when our Master Jesus arrives with all his followers.

I then share two more promos–
My friends Angela and Jen have a great podcast called http://www.anomalypodcast.com You will love it.
I also share another promo from Meds and Kell.  It’s called Waffle On.  http://waffleon.podbean.com

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
I talk in depth about unleashing your creative side in many areas.  I even share some cool spontaneous recording with my keyboard and vocals.  I then give six tips on being creative.

God created us Creative!

My muse is Jesus.

Six Tips on unleashing creativity:

1.  Overcome the fear of failure. (looking stupid, unc0mfortable etc.)  What would you do if you weren’t afraid?
2.  Gather the tools to enhance your talent and dream. (software, notebooks, instruments, etc.)
3.  Practice and don’t be afraid to fail, get back up and keep going.  That is the creative process. Experiment!
*It’s the little things we do everyday that makes up the big success.
4.  Create a place to create-  find a place to experiment and create.
5.  Have the guts to share it with others.  Your creation needs an audience.
6.  Don’t be afraid of the critics.

I then play a cool dramatization or reading from Luke about the parable of the talents. We create the music right on the spot for it.

Take a listen to some of my music here:  http://www.christrocks.com/parody

I then play a song by John Elefante called “That’s why God made the moon”
http://www.google.com/musicl?lid=8F9O2THY3xK&aid=sT9sS_cm4PG

I used to think that lonliness was meant for me
Like a message in a bottle lost out in the sea
But now that we’re together
my whole world has been made new
I wanna live my life for you
And every star up in the sky
has driven me to testify
that I wanna know you

That’s why God made the moon
For nights like these when we dream of all eternity
As the angels sing the twilight symphony
They sing la-de-de-de-da-da
la-de-de-de-da-da tonight
That’s why God made the moon

There’s a city in the distance
but it seems so far away
It’s a place where lonely hearts await
The Son to light their day
But up here I know it’s silent
There’s no sorrow to be found
just heaven all around
And every star up in the sky
has driven me to testify
that I wanna know you

And we all must feel the same
as we look up to a world that never ends
It’s hard to think that this is all coincidence
Cause in the darkness we need light to find our way

My muse is Jesus Christ.

I then pray for you.

Next week:  Youth and Technolgy- where have all the children gone?

WORDS OF WISDOM
Chapter 2 of 1st Thessalonians (Message)

1-2So, friends, it’s obvious that our visit to you was no waste of time. We had just been given rough treatment in Philippi, as you know, but that didn’t slow us down. We were sure of ourselves in God, and went right ahead and said our piece, presenting God’s Message to you, defiant of the opposition.

No Hidden Agendas

3-5God tested us thoroughly to make sure we were qualified to be trusted with this Message. Be assured that when we speak to you we’re not after crowd approval—only God approval. Since we’ve been put through that battery of tests, you’re guaranteed that both we and the Message are free of error, mixed motives, or hidden agendas. We never used words to butter you up. No one knows that better than you. And God knows we never used words as a smoke screen to take advantage of you.

6-8Even though we had some standing as Christ’s apostles, we never threw our weight around or tried to come across as important, with you or anyone else. We weren’t aloof with you. We took you just as you were. We were never patronizing, never condescending, but we cared for you the way a mother cares for her children. We loved you dearly. Not content to just pass on the Message, we wanted to give you our hearts. And we did.

9-12You remember us in those days, friends, working our fingers to the bone, up half the night, moonlighting so you wouldn’t have the burden of supporting us while we proclaimed God’s Message to you. You saw with your own eyes how discreet and courteous we were among you, with keen sensitivity to you as fellow believers. And God knows we weren’t freeloaders! You experienced it all firsthand. With each of you we were like a father with his child, holding your hand, whispering encouragement, showing you step-by-step how to live well before God, who called us into his own kingdom, into this delightful life.

13And now we look back on all this and thank God, an artesian well of thanks! When you got the Message of God we preached, you didn’t pass it off as just one more human opinion, but you took it to heart as God’s true word to you, which it is, God himself at work in you believers!

14-16Friends, do you realize that you followed in the exact footsteps of the churches of God in Judea, those who were the first to follow in the footsteps of Jesus Christ? You got the same bad treatment from your countrymen as they did from theirs, the Jews who killed the Master Jesus (to say nothing of the prophets) and followed it up by running us out of town. They make themselves offensive to God and everyone else by trying to keep us from telling people who’ve never heard of our God how to be saved. They’ve made a career of opposing God, and have gotten mighty good at it. But God is fed up, ready to put an end to it.

17-20Do you have any idea how very homesick we became for you, dear friends? Even though it hadn’t been that long and it was only our bodies that were separated from you, not our hearts, we tried our very best to get back to see you. You can’t imagine how much we missed you! I, Paul, tried over and over to get back, but Satan stymied us each time. Who do you think we’re going to be proud of when our Master Jesus appears if it’s not you? You’re our pride and joy!

I then play some promos from Appytimes http://appytimes.podbean.com and Treks in Sci Fi http://www.treksinscifi.com Both great podcasts!

Thanks again!

Westport

Posted: September 25, 2009 in Cool Stuff just for you

I had the wonderful privelage of taking some pictures for a graduating senior last night.  Went to Westport WA.  Here are some pictures of the evening.

I took the picture above of foot tracks in the sand, then used the contrast setting to enhance the picture.  Turned out cool I think.

I like the colors in the one above.  This is taken from standing on the Jetty.

The waves are so cool to watch.

Looks like Mars, minus the water. 🙂

Ever since I was a kid I have loved to talk. I’m sure those of you that know me personally don’t find that surprising! As a result I have been M.C. for events, given many speeches, sermons, presentations and more. I also tried my hand at retail sales. Back in my High School and College years I worked at J.C. Penney, in the electronics department. I sold stereos, Walkmen, televisions and a brand new consumer product called the video tape recorder. Yeah, I know this dates me. I made a lot of money back in the day because I LOVED stereos. I still do. I would simply crank the volume knob and people would hand me their credit cards. I loved the commissions I made.

I found, over the years, that there are three kinds of sales people. The first are clueless. They are simply there to fill a spot. They don’t know their product and aren’t of any help except to run your credit card and hand you the merchandise. The second are the high pressure folks who are only there to make money to benefit themselves. They don’t care about repeat business and have no interest whatsoever in the well being of the customer. The sale is the only thing that counts. Then the third type are those that really know their product. They are a delight to work for because the product they are selling literally sells itself. This salesperson simply enhances the whole experience because of their customer service and care. They get repeat customers and many referrals.

I thought about this in comparison to how God is presented in our culture. It is my opinion that Jesus doesn’t need the first two sales people. We have all experienced them haven’t we? The first person doesn’t know anything about God other than the fact that they are supposed to talk about him or something. The second beat people over the head with their big black Bibles and literally try to “scare the hell” out of them. They picket, scream and yell and act like they aren’t very happy.

I think God needs more people like the third kind. The third are pretty amazing people. They are the kind that I want to be. They know Jesus personally. They know all about him and they do their best to simply love the people around them. They are really genuinely interested in the well being of others and make every effort to be helpful and responsible.

Can you imagine if everyone that claimed to “be God’s people” would act that way? I guess then Christians wouldn’t have the reputation of used car salesmen.

All that to say this- Let’s live for Christ in the way we act. Let’s be kind to people and listen. Let’s only speak when we have to, otherwise let’s show people we love them by your actions.

I love this phrase from St. Francis of Assisi-
“Preach the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words.”

WORDS OF WISDOM
1st Thessalonians Chapter 1 from the New Living Translation

1 This letter is from Paul, Silas,[a] and Timothy.

We are writing to the church in Thessalonica, to you who belong to God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

May God give you grace and peace.

The Faith of the Thessalonian Believers

2 We always thank God for all of you and pray for you constantly. 3 As we pray to our God and Father about you, we think of your faithful work, your loving deeds, and the enduring hope you have because of our Lord Jesus Christ.

4 We know, dear brothers and sisters,[b] that God loves you and has chosen you to be his own people. 5 For when we brought you the Good News, it was not only with words but also with power, for the Holy Spirit gave you full assurance[c] that what we said was true. And you know of our concern for you from the way we lived when we were with you. 6 So you received the message with joy from the Holy Spirit in spite of the severe suffering it brought you. In this way, you imitated both us and the Lord. 7 As a result, you have become an example to all the believers in Greece—throughout both Macedonia and Achaia.[d]

8 And now the word of the Lord is ringing out from you to people everywhere, even beyond Macedonia and Achaia, for wherever we go we find people telling us about your faith in God. We don’t need to tell them about it, 9 for they keep talking about the wonderful welcome you gave us and how you turned away from idols to serve the living and true God. 10 And they speak of how you are looking forward to the coming of God’s Son from heaven—Jesus, whom God raised from the dead. He is the one who has rescued us from the terrors of the coming judgment.

I play a promo from from Tim Morris’s new podcast “Appytimes” http://appytimes.podbean.com  I then play Meds and Kell’s promo for Waffle On http://waffleon.podbean.com   Both podcasts have a new offering for you.

This is a podcast you will really enjoy.  Good stuff and great conversation.

Next week I will be talking about “The original sin”  What happened in the Garden of Eden to Adam and Eve and what is this whole concept on “Sin”?  It’s going to be good. it’s called “The Forbidden Fruit”

I start out the program playing a promo from Angela and Jen from the Anomaly Podcast.  http://www.anomalypodcast.com  Some great new stuff they have out. (said in Yoda voice)

Andrew and I went to see District 9 in spite of it’s R rating and excesive use of the Fbomb.  Take a listen to my review.

425_2_district9_lc_071309

The CGI was flawless, the aliens looked completely real.

The main actor was new to the movie scene

district9-440x486
Sharlto Copley- the lead actor in District 9

So do I reccomend the movie?   You will have to listen!  🙂
It is rated R because of its very gory violence and excessive use of the F word.

Spiritually dark, District 9 pulls on the moral heart strings.

WORDS OF WISDOM
This week I read Proverbs Chapter 9 from the Message Bible

1-6Lady Wisdom has built and furnished her home; it’s supported by seven hewn timbers.
The banquet meal is ready to be served: lamb roasted,
wine poured out, table set with silver and flowers.
Having dismissed her serving maids,
Lady Wisdom goes to town, stands in a prominent place,
and invites everyone within sound of her voice:
“Are you confused about life, don’t know what’s going on?
Come with me, oh come, have dinner with me!
I’ve prepared a wonderful spread—fresh-baked bread,
   roast lamb, carefully selected wines.
Leave your impoverished confusion and live!
Walk up the street to a life with meaning.”

 7-12 If you reason with an arrogant cynic, you’ll get slapped in the face;
confront bad behavior and get a kick in the shins.
So don’t waste your time on a scoffer;
all you’ll get for your pains is abuse.
But if you correct those who care about life,
that’s different—they’ll love you for it!
Save your breath for the wise—they’ll be wiser for it;
tell good people what you know—they’ll profit from it.
Skilled living gets its start in the Fear-of-God,
insight into life from knowing a Holy God.
It’s through me, Lady Wisdom, that your life deepens,
and the years of your life ripen.
Live wisely and wisdom will permeate your life;
mock life and life will mock you.

Madame Whore Calls Out, Too

13-18 Then there’s this other woman, Madame Whore—
   brazen, empty-headed, frivolous.
She sits on the front porch
of her house on Main Street,
And as people walk by minding
   their own business, calls out,
“Are you confused about life, don’t know what’s going on?
Steal off with me, I’ll show you a good time!
No one will ever know—I’ll give you the time of your life.”
But they don’t know about all the skeletons in her closet,
that all her guests end up in hell.1-6Lady Wisdom has built and furnished her home; it’s supported by seven hewn timbers.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT
O.M.G.  Myth-Busting Jesus

This week I talk about who Jesus is according to the Bible.
I play a little of the bands Whitecross and Stryper.  Pretty cool.

I then talk about who Jesus was, is and will be.  You need to listen into the podcast.  I think you will get a lot out of it.

Here is a great website that talks about what I covered:  http://www.whoisjesus-really.com/

The reason Jesus came was to hook us back up to God.  Adam and Eve sunk it for us, and Jesus rescued us. 🙂

MYTHS-Busted by the Bible
Jesus and Satan were brothers.  NOPE.
Jesus is Buddha, Allah, etc.  NOPE
Jesus was created.   NOPE
Jesus didn’t raise from the dead, they stole his body.  NOPE
Jesus was a tall pasty looking guy with a lamb around his neck.  NOPE
Jesus was very harsh on everbody.  NOPE  only on the religious folks.

Believing in Jesus is the best thing you can ever do. IMO. 🙂

I play a song by one of my favorite bands- Rez Band.  This is from their acoustic Ampendectomy CD- it’s called “Broken Promises”
rbampen
You can get the cd here  http://www.grrrrecords.com/store/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=50
Here are the lyrics:
Broken Promises by Rez Band

Broken promises
Broken by me and not You
Jesus, break me
Lord, snap my stubborn heart in two
Lonely hors, so many wasted talents
That I’ve sown
But now I’m ready to follow You, Jesus
My dear Lord, I’m coming home
Lord, I want You to change me
Rearrange me
Lord, I want You to mold me
I just want You to hold me
Sweet Savior, just love me
Your thoughts are so high above me
I confess that I need You
I really know that I need You
I need You

I encourage folks to read the book of John in the Bible.

I say a prayer for you and then take the show out!
